Using GPS to find your pets
53When your pet is lost, don't panic
Today, with all the new technology available, it is easier to find your lost pet than you think. There are a number of services available now that will locate and/or track your pet for you and you just have to have access to a computer or smart phone. You don't have to have a chip implanted into your pet to be able to locate your lost friend.
Most of these services utilize a locator disk of some type that you attach firmly to your pet's collar or harness. This is the part that sends locations back to the home site and allows you to track and find Fido when he gets out the gate.
You can chose to locate your pet yourself on your computer or you can arrange for the company to send you locations on your phone. I know that when my pet is missing, I am usually out looking for him, so this last option is a plus in my book.
GPS locating is safe and effective
Today, if you want to get your pet microchipped, you need to go to the vet and pay for the procedure of physically implanting a foreign object under the skin of your pet. This chip is used to identify the pet owner if your pet has been lost and if someone finds him. The downside is that once found, the lost pet has to be taken to another vet to have the chip read. What a horrible experience for an already frightened and tired pet.
With a GPS locator, nothing foreign is implanted into your pet. The locator is firmly attached to the collar and will not come off. If your lost little baby is found, there is a number to call on the locator that connects the finder with the GPS service; they contact you immediately. What a much better experience for your sweet little pet who has probably just had a stressful experience.
In the event that your pet is a wanderer, you can use the service to locate the signal your pet's locator is giving off. With this information, you will be able to find your "fearless adventurer" yourself. Instead of worrying that your pet will get into dangerous mischief, you can simply go to where the locator is and pick up your pet. What a happy ending his adventure.
I know that when my pet is lost, I am anxious and worried and I bet you are too. Get peace of mind now and get your pet a GPS locator now.
